Über…. Uber…..
Palabras parecidas, pero cosas totalmente diferentes. Hace unos pocos años la palabra über significaba ‘extremadamente’, ahora se piensa en la gigantesca empresa de transporte de ridesharing.
Fundado en 2009, Über es una compañía que facilita comunicación entre conductores y pasajeros atreves de una aplicación de móvil. La idea es que si necesitas un viaje en coche, desde tu móvil puedes ver si hay un conductor de Über en tu área que te pueda recoger y llevar a tu destino. Desde que empezó, la compañía ha sido el centro de mucha controversia. Entre dificultades de legalidad, problemas con sindicatos de taxistas y problemas con la regulación, la compañía está prohibida, o voluntariamente no opera, en ciertos países.
Para que os hagáis una idea, en 2015 Über supero mil millones de viajes. ¿Necesitas ir a clase y el autobús no llega? Pues te pides un Über…. O igual vas al aeropuerto y no quieres llevar el coche o tienes cita con tu medico pero no tienes carnet.
..……lo que sea, sin problema te pides un Über y ya.

Como igual puedes imaginar con más y más gente haciendo viajes en Uber, el tema de salud esta se está volviendo importante. Entre las personas que vomitan, que tienen una crisis médica o las personas que dan a luz en la parte trasera de los automóviles (como ejemplo), los problemas de salud son cada vez más visibles.
Un tema muy importante que es responsable de estos casos es el precio de las ambulancias. En Estados Unidos un viaje en ambulancia de menos de 2-3 kilómetros puede costar desde 500 hasta 2.000 dólares, y si tienes suerte, tu seguro puede pagar una parte, pero si no tienes seguro pagarás todo eso de bolsillo.
En respuesta a más personas tomando un Uber al hospital que una ambulancia, Uber creo un nuevo proyecto:

Se destaca en unos puntos importantes:
- Programación flexible para pacientes, cuidadores y personal. Los coordinadores pueden programar viajes en nombre de los pacientes, los cuidadores y el personal para que se lleven a cabo de forma inmediata, en unas pocas horas o hasta con 30 días de anticipación. Esto permite que el transporte se programe para citas de seguimiento mientras que el paciente se encuentra en el centro de salud. Se pueden programar y administrar múltiples viajes al mismo tiempo, todo desde un solo tablero.
- Acceso para pacientes sin un teléfono inteligente. Los pasajeros no necesitan la aplicación Uber, o incluso un smart-phone, para viajar con Uber Health porque todo se hace a través de un mensaje de texto o incluso una copia en papel si no tienen teléfono, pero también están preparando una opción para que los pasajeros reciban una llamada con detalles del viaje a su teléfono móvil o línea fija.
- Facturación simple, informes y administración. A las compañías de atención médica se les cobra la tarifa estándar para Uber en su área.
- Cumple con las regulaciones HIPAA. Los conductores no sabrán si los pasajeros están usando Uber Health, y otra información sensible no será compartida.
Cada año, 3,6 millones de estadounidenses pierden citas con el médico debido a la falta de transporte confiable y las tasas de no presentación son tan altas como el 30% en todo el país.
Uber Health espera que este programa pueda ayudar disminuir estos números.. pero no son los únicos números que van bajando. Un análisis realizado por investigadores de la Universidad de Kansas encontró una disminución del 7% en las llamadas de ambulancia en áreas donde estaba disponible Uber. Aunque una correlación no implica una causalidad, se ve que hay más personas usando Uber, y por $20 mejor ir en Uber que ir en ambulancia por $2000, no?
Además, una investigación en JAMA Surgeryevaluó los datos de más de 1.75 millones de llamadas de emergencia de 2015 y encontró que una ambulancia en una zona urbana o suburbana tardó una media de aproximadamente siete minutos en llegar al lugar. Por otra parte es posible que un viaje compartido pueda llegar más rápidamente.
Claro, a la misma vez, los conductores de Uber no pueden usar sirenas para despejar las carreteras ni legalmente ir más allá de velocidad. La compañía incluso comentó,
«Uber no es un sustituto de la aplicación de la ley de los profesionales médicos. En caso de una emergencia médica, siempre alentamos a las personas a llamar al 911 «.
En circunstancias serias, una ambulancia es mil veces más útil. Con profesionales que te pueden salvar la vida, y una amplia gama de equipos médicos y herramientas, Uber igual te da una botellita de agua y un chicle.
Por lo tanto, es über chulo que se estén desarrollando nuevas formas de tecnología que puedan ayudar aumentar el nivel de salud, pero es posible que no sea tan über fácil como Uber lo hace parecer.
