How do we obtain the information needed to carry out the studies in the GENEIDA cohort?
The information needed to meet the objectives of our studies comes mainly from two sources. On the one hand, the analysis of biomarkers of exposure and effect in biological samples collected during the different stages of follow-up. This means quantifying those parameters that provide us with information on exposure to environmental pollutants, e.g. groups of pesticides, or on health effects, e.g. genetic or epigenetic factors. On the other hand, with the use of questionnaires we collect relevant information for our studies, such as socio-demographic characteristics, environmental and occupational exposures, diet, lifestyle, medical history, among others. The integrated use of these data allows us to identify how the exposures studied affect the health of mothers and their children over time.
